Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has urged his players to put up a solid performance against Spanish champions Real Madrid in their Champions League clash at Etihad on Wednesday, despite knowing even a win may not be enough to keep them in the competition.
City might still have a chance despite taking just two points from four matches so far in Europe's elite competition, and Kompany has demanded an improvement.
"I guess there's a big contrast between our Champions League performances and what we've done in the league so far. We need to make sure our Champions League performances get better. If I knew the answer as to why, we probably wouldn't be where we are," the Sun quoted Kompany, as saying.
A victory over Jose Mourinho's Spanish giants would ensure City at least go into their final match at Borussia Dortmund with a chance of qualifying, and Kompany has told his team-mates to keep their European campaign alive while proving a few of the doubters wrong.
"For some freakish reason we still have a chance in the Champions League. I like to think, in the two games we have left, we can play them to qualify but more for pride as well," Kompany said.
"We are better than what we have shown so far. It's a great opportunity, we still have a chance," he added. (ANI)
