Mexican star Javier Hernandez has insisted he is prepared to fight for his place at Manchester United, after being edged out of the first-team picture following the arrival of 22 million-pound striker Robin van Persie from Arsenal.
The Mexican scored 20 goals in his first season at United following a seven million pound move from Chivas de Guadalajara in 2010, but suffered injury and a loss of form last term.
However, the 24 year-old, who is yet to appear for United this season, claimed that he is ready to meet the challenge of reclaiming a place in the team.
"There is competition for places, but you always have that. I had that in youth teams when I was growing up and we have it here now because you need a big squad of players," The Telegraph quoted Hernandez, as saying.
"There are only 11 places each week and you need to do your best to get one of those places, but it's great to have that competition because it means every player will have to raise the level of their game," he added.
Hernandez also said that he could benefit from Van Persie's presence in the squad, as he was Premier League top scorer last season with 30 goals.
"I try to learn from all my team-mates, but obviously it's great to watch the other strikers in particular. They have all helped me a lot and I know I will learn a lot off Robin because he is a world-class striker who has a lot to give to the team and a lot to teach us all," he said. (ANI)
