The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced on Thursday the suspension of Sandro Tonali for illegal betting.

Newcastle United brought in the 23-year-old from AC Milan in a €64 million deal in the summer.

The Italy international is set to serve a ten-month suspension and will undergo a rehabilitation program of eight months afterwards.

Corriere dello Sport says that Newcastle have threatened to take legal action against Milan after ending up with a player that will not be available for selection this campaign.

The English club will be without the midfielder for the remainder of the season as it stands.

Tonali's deal at Newcastle runs until the summer of 2028.
