Cesc Fabregas believes Riyad Mahrez should be named PFA Player of the Year and feels the Algeria international is good enough to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Mahrez has played a key role in Leicester City's title tilt this term, scoring 16 goals and recording 11 assists for Claudio Ranieri's table-topping outfit.

And Fabregas, who considers the 25-year-old to be the Premier League's standout player this season, is of the opinion that Mahrez has what it takes to thrive at either of the Spanish giants.

"I’d have to go for Mahrez," the Chelsea midfielder told Sky Sports when asked who he was backing for the Player of the Year prize. "He makes things happen for Leicester throughout he whole season.

"For Leicester, the way they are doing it, it has to be a flair player."

When asked whether Mahrez had the ability to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid, Fabregas added: "Why not? Let him get his Premier League medal then we’ll see.

"He has the talent, he works hard, I believe he can play for the top clubs."

Leicester are currently five points clear of Tottenham Hotspur at the top of the table with four games remaining.
