Egypt have dropped one position to 45 in the FIFA global football rankings that were published on 2 June, after placing 44th last month.

The Pharaohs have been out of action since beating Nigeria 1-0 in March in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers before an enthusiastic crowd at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium, all but assuring their qualification for the tournament finals in Gabon.

Egypt remain in 5th position among the first class of African countries, after Algeria (32), Ivory Coast (36), Ghana (37) and Senegal (41).

The seven-time African champions are at the top of Group G of the qualifiers with seven points, five ahead of second placed Nigeria.

The North African side Egypt will face Tanzania in the final round of the CAN 2017 qualifiers on 4 June.

Egypt has failed to reach Africa's showpiece tournament for the last three editions in a row, the first time it has missed at least two consecutive tournaments since failing to qualify for the 1965 and 1968 CAN.

The Pharaohs made it into the world's top 10 when they won three successive CAN trophies, in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

In June's rankings, Madagascar (108) moved up the most places jumping 29 positions, while Rwanda (103) were the worst, falling a full 16 places.
