Chelsea have been forced to continue their search for David Luiz's replacement at the heart of defense after having been rebuffed multiple times for various targets.

According to the Star it appears that they now are once more being linked with a move for AS Roma star Mehdi Benatia.

The former Udinese defender only moved to Rome last summer, but his standout performances have seen his value rising across the European market.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is keen on finding another solid choice at centerback to slot into the rotation with Gary Cahill and the aging John Terry and believes that Benatia could be one of the long term future as Cahill's future partner.

The Blues are said to be preparing an offer in the range of £30 million according to sources from Gazzetta dello Sport as quoted by the Star.

However, the west London club could face competition from Manchester United as Louis Van Gaal is also believed interested in the making a move for the 27-year-old star before the end of the transfer window at the beginning of next month.
