Real Madrid go into the home leg of their round of 16 tie with a 6-1 advantage on aggregate and are almost guaranteed a place in the next stage unless Schalke pulls off one of the most miraculous turnarounds of all time.
The La Liga giants will likely see them rest several players as well as sub off his biggest stars early to ensure they remain fresh for the weekend.
However, Schalke on the other hand will try to do what they can but if they fail to make a breakthrough in the first half they are likely to pull back a bit as well and start to prepare for the weekend fixture in the Bundesliga.
The German side have multiple injury issues including Jefferson Farfan who is likely to be sidelined and also Atsuto Uchida whom will likely not be risked for a match that has become almost pointless at this point.

Schalke XI: Fahrmann: Howedes, Matip, Santana, Kolasinac; Boateng, Neustadter; Obasi, Meyer, Draxler; Huntelaar.
