David Beckham's dream of playing in the Olympics is close to fulfillment after Team Great Britain coach Stuart Pearce indicated that he could name the former Manchester United star in his 35-man shortlist.
According to the Daily Mail, Pearce will submit its shortlist to FIFA, which also includes Beckham's name in it, ending incoherent speculation over his participation.
Pearce still has to carve down his latest shortlist of 35 to a final 18-man squad by July 6, and it is inconceivable given his status and profile, that Beckham will be discarded at the last moment
Beckham has made no secret of his desire to represent his country during the London Olympics.
His critics believe his place owes more to celebrity status and the need to shift tickets than pure football reasons, and this will put down Beckham's inclusion in the Team GB.
Pearce has insisted on selecting his squad on his own terms, with both the British Olympic Association and Lord Coe's organizing committee, LOCOG, claiming they have brought no pressure to select Beckham, who helped London win the Games. (ANI)
