Football fans are ready for another exciting El Clasico on Sunday evening. Barcelona and Real Madrid will face off in the final of the Spanish Super Cup at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.
Both teams reached the final through different semi-final victories, adding another chapter to their historic rivalry.
Barcelona Arrive in Commanding Form
Barcelona advanced to the final with a dominant 5-0 win over Athletic Bilbao. The match was virtually decided before half-time, as the Catalans quickly took a four-goal lead.
Raphinha stood out with two goals, while Fermin Lopez, Ferran Torres, and Roony Bardghji also scored. The ease of the victory allowed Hansi Flick’s team to manage their workload, giving them a slight recovery advantage ahead of Sunday’s match.
The Blaugrana now enjoy a nine-match winning streak across all competitions and aim for a record-extending 16th Spanish Super Cup title. They haven’t lost a domestic match since late October when Real Madrid narrowly defeated them in La Liga.
Real Madrid Overcome Atletico in Hard-Fought Semi-Final
Real Madrid faced a tough challenge in their semi-final against Atletico Madrid. Xabi Alonso’s team won 2-1, thanks to goals from Federico Valverde and Rodrygo.
Valverde kicked things off with a brilliant long-range free-kick, and Rodrygo added another goal early in the second half. Atletico threatened to come back through Alexander Sorloth, but Real Madrid stayed strong to secure their spot in the final.
Los Blancos are after their 14th Super Cup title and want to bounce back after losing to Barcelona in last season’s final.
A Rivalry With History on the Line
Sunday’s final will be the 263rd meeting between these two clubs. Barcelona has won four of the last five matchups, but Real Madrid has triumphed in five of the last nine encounters overall.
While the Spanish Super Cup may not define a season for either club, an El Clasico final carries significant weight, with pride and momentum at stake.
