Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa wins AFC presidency

Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa has been elected as the 11th President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and as the second Arab national to assumes the position of President of the AFC since its inception in 1954.

The first Arab national was Qatari national Mr. Mohammad bin Hammam.

The ten previous presidents of the AFC came from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Iran, Qatar and China. In the period 1954-1958 alone, four Hong Kong nationals had successively assumed this position.

H.E. Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa has won 33 out of 47 votes in order to become the AFC's 11th President succeeding Chinese national Mr. Zhang Jilong.
