To the East lie the lesser known (but much larger) Qeshm and tiny Hormuz or ‘Rainbow Island’.
This is Hormuz island in the Arabian Gulf, the mostly forgotten land of colours in the Strait of Hormuz, 5km from the mainland, and southeast of Bandar Abbas, major port and capital of the province of Hormuzgan.
The Fort of Our Lady of Conception was built by Portuguese who were forced to in left during the reign of Abbas I of Persia.
Locals have stories for the rocks and cliffs that resemble birds, animals or mythical creatures. Colorful mountains in shades of pink, red, purple and yellow overlook shorelines where turtles and flamingos roam or sunbathe.
