Heavy downpours and flash floods hit Istanbul on August 17 leaving one dead with flooding causing the drowning of some streets and disrupting public transport.
Moreover, a man’s lifeless body was found in an underpass in Unkapanı district. Reports revealed he may have been one of the homeless seeking shelters in the underpass, where floodwaters reached 190 centimetres deep.
On the other hand, several shops and homes were flooded in lower parts of the district where significant infrastructure have been under construction for the last couple of years.
