Trump on a 'Relaxing' Visit to India

Published February 24th, 2020 - 07:09 GMT

US president Donald Trump, accompanied by First Lady Melania, daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner landed in India for a 2-days official visit to Ahmedabad, Agra, and New Delhi.

Trump is likely to open the world's biggest cricket stadium and watch the sunset at the Taj Mahal, a Mughal era mausoleum.

“It is important to understand the context in which the remarks were made,” Raveesh Kumar, spokesman of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, said.

On the other hand,  Indian protesters have taken the streets of New Delhi a day before Trump's visit to rally against anti-Muslims new citizenship law.

Trade ties between the United States and India have long been problematic but under "America First" President Donald Trump and "Make in India" Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they have worsened. While eclipsed by his trade war with China, Trump's tussle with India, and New Delhi's prickly reaction, has made a major pact unlikely during the American president's visit to the world's fifth-largest economy from February 24.
