Sheikh-ing up the catwalk: HH Mozah of Qatar struts it like a royal model!

Published June 7th, 2015 - 08:07 GMT

HH Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned is a Fashion Queen in her own right. A long-standing trendsetter, she’s undeniably a global fashion icon. The Sheikha’s style is classic, timeless, and oozes old Hollywood glamour, all the while her wardrobe comprises of the latest collections on the catwalk.

But the Qatari royal’s wardrobe isn’t her only impressive feat. A prominent political and society figure, the Sheikha is highly involved in Qatar’s government.

As the second of the three wives of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Emir of the State of Qatar, Madame Mozah surely has the resources to fund her infamous majestic wardrobe, seeing as she carefully selects the crème de la crème of the season's latest straight from the world’s top designers.

Here at Al Bawaba, we are fond of and admire her modest take on high fashion, as she gracefully fuses runway looks and traditional Arab dress.

We’ve put the royal fashionista head to head with her runway doppelgangers for a game of “Who Wore It Best.” Let the games begin!

Can anyone do it better than Mozah? We’ll let the clothes speak for themselves!

Sheikha Mozah’s classy interpretation of Ulyana Sergeenko’s Spring 2014 Couture collection runway look is just to die for. The lux jewel toned kimono offset her gorgeous features. Sheikha Mozah wins this round for her stunning, thick gold belt which highlights her tiny waist.

Lady in grey: Sheikha is wearing a Stephane Rolland Haute couture dress, which is both classy and flattering. However, we prefer the runway original in white and gold, as it looks lighter than the Sheikha’s heavy version.

The Sheikha means BUSINESS when it comes to high fashion, and my God, the woman can rock a power suit. The Sheikha is wearing a Jean Paul Gaultier couture pant suit from the Summer/Spring 2015 collection. Hands down, she is victorious in the runway showdown, making the runway model look like a pauper in comparison!

Sheikha Mozah, will you be our fairy godmother? She looks absolutely stunning in this Valentino cape, and we just adore the matching white turban. She wins this round in the battle versus the runway for her sparkling smile alone.

This one is a bit of a toss up, as we don’t love this pale pink Chanel frock on either the Sheikha or the runway model. But her curves do fill out the unflattering dress better than the model, so we will give it to the Sheikha.

Well she isn’t sparkle-shy, that's for sure. Sheikha Mozah wore this glamorous, shimmering Valentino Spring 2013 evening gown to the inauguration of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands. We love her modest take on the plunging neckline, and overall prefer the color on her warm skin-tone.

At first it’s hard to see the resemblance, but the Sheikha is wearing an adapted version of this Christian Lacroix couture dress from the Spring/Summer 2009 collection. She looks very modern and chic, but perhaps a bit stiff in the structured fabric. In this case, we prefer the runway look.

This suit has Chanel written all over it, which the Sheikha tends to wear pretty well. Lime green complements Mozah’s olive skin tone, while giving her a softer look. The runway model looks just as alluring as her Highness. 1-1 for the ladies.

Let’s face it, even the best of models will struggle to pull off this Christian Dior coat, including the one pictured here. But our Qatari fashionista is a picture of glam and grace in this Spring 2010 creation.

This beautiful dress looks trendy in all shapes and cuts, but on this occasion, Mozah’s svelte frame accentuates the beauty of this checkered piece. It’s a clear 1-0 for Mozah!

WOW. It’s not about who wore it better in this picture; it’s that larger-than-life bow that steals the show. But if we had to give it to one of them, the prize would go to the catwalk model!

We’re undecided on this Stephane Rolland Autumn/Winter Couture 2009/10 number, as both ladies look absolutely stunning in it. While the V neck gives the model’s dress an edgy twist, Mozah’s turban is a fab touch to her overall look. An even score for both!

Miss model rocked Chanel’s Spring 2015 floor-length shimmering cape on the catwalk, but Mozah brought it to life off the runway, elevating it to a regal standard. Karl Lagerfeld would be proud!

This isn’t Mozah’s most flattering look, or color for that matter! The Sheikha’s curves didn’t help her pull off this Autumn/Winter 2010/11 dress by Giorgio Armani, while the model’s slender frame was much more suited for this delicate style. She wins this round!

Sorry your Highness, the catwalk takes this one home. The Sheikha’s Audrey Hepburn-inspired Dior dress may be très chic, but the model’s sophisticated gown would fit way better at a royal ball.
