At Least 832 people were confirmed dead but that figure is expected to increase sharply as more remote areas are reached. On the other hand, dozens of people are thought to be trapped alive under the rubble.
The tsunami, towering up to three meters high, hit Palu, capital of the Central Sulawesi province, and the northeast of the nearby Donggala Regency.
“We are trying our best. Time is so important here to save people,” said Muhammad Syaugi, head of the national search-and-rescue team. “Heavy equipment is on the way.”
