Palestinian Protesters Confront Israeli Police During Ramadan

After a series of fatal shootings and stabbings in Israel and an aggressive increase in Israeli policing in the occupied Palestinian territories, the holy month of Ramadan has once again been marked by violence, protests and demonstrations.

Several Palestinian-led protests have been taking place in Jerusalem and around the Al-Aqsa mosque, which Israeli police have stormed in confrontations with Palestinians attempting to pray or hold demonstrations there.

The demonstrations held by Palestinians, in which some participants threw stones or lit tire fires for smokescreens, were met by Israel's usual response of sweeping arrests, tear gas and rubber-coated bullets, and in some instances live ammunition. Hundreds of Palestinian protesters have been injured in a single week of demonstrations.
