A Little Prayer For Latin America's COVID Victims

Coronavirus cases have been going up sharply in Latin America, although there are signs that the numbers of new cases may be beginning to drop in some countries.

The global pandemic has claimed nearly one million lives, about a third of those in Latin America, where countries with overstretched medical resources are bracing for a new wave.

Latin America remains the most affected region in the world by the coronavirus pandemic, with over 8.85 million infections.

Brazil has had more than 4.5 million confirmed cases - the third highest tally in the world after the US and India - and has had the most deaths after the US.

Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Peru have also had major outbreaks, and are in the top 10 countries with the most confirmed cases.

With 28% of the almost 31.8 million confirmed cases worldwide and a third of the more than 974,000 deaths recorded globally, Latin America remains the region most affected by COVID-19.
