Israeli forces shot and killed veteran Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh as she covered an Israeli raid on the Jenin refugee camp on May 11, 2022, according to a report by Al Jazeera. Video footage showed that Abu Aqleh was wearing a helmet and blue body armor with visible "PRESS" markings before she was shot.
The Palestinian health ministry said Abu Aqleh was shot in the head in an area her helmet didn't cover. On May 10, a day before the Israeli raid on Jenin, Israeli forces demolished Palestinian homes in the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan in a series of escalating events occurring in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.
