Voters in France are heading to the polls to cast their ballots in the first round of the presidential elections which kicks off  on 10 April, 2022 with 12 candidates running. Only two candidates will qualify for the second round of the elections hosted on April 24th.

Three candidates stand out in the spotlight due to their controversial campaigns including France's current president Emmanuel Macron, far-right politician Marine Le Pen, as well as Eric Zemmour.

According to data, this year could see a historically low turnout. According to an Ifop poll carried out this month 80% of French people feel the electoral campaign was of “poor quality”.
