Ashura Day Marked by Muslims Worldwide

Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar and marks the climax of the Mourning of Muharram. Muslims worldwide are celebrating Ashura day annually.

Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims seen in the Iraqi shrine city of Karbala marking Ashura day. However, no covid-19 protection measures were taken.

In India's Ahmedabad region, Shiite Muslims carried a 'Tazia' during mourning rituals to mark the death anniversary of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad.

Ashura day was also marked in Iran by tens of thousand prayers.
