"Schools without Accidents" kicks-off its second phase leading up to the finals in May

The "Schools without Accidents" campaign, organised by the National Campaign for Road Accidents Prevention and sponsored by IBQ, has kicked-off its second phase with a series of exciting new events and activities for school students. The second phase will include a multi-media video competition, a Traffic Day for participants, and the much-awaited closing ceremony with special recognition and prizes for all the winners.
The “Schools without Accidents” campaign is part of a national awareness drive to prevent road accidents. The campaign has been sponsored by IBQ for three consecutive years.
This year the campaign has focusing on promoting high road manners and appropriate road behavior amongst school students, and is rolled out in three phases. The campaign began in November last year with live demos and seminars, followed by workshops for school advisors and practical sessions for students. The second phase which begins now also includes a Traffic Day to be held on May 4 where school students will gather at the Porsche Center in Al Wakrah to experience first-hand and witness live demos that aim at raising their awareness of road safety. This will be followed by the “Schools without Accidents” educational festival where competitions will be held on 10 and 11 May 2011 at the Qatar National Theatre.
During this second phase, the multi-media video competition will challenge the skills and talents of school students to produce the best video about road violations. Some of the topics to be covered include bypassing other drivers using the wrong lanes, reckless driving, driving with no license, blocking the road, and using parking areas that are dedicated for people with special needs or for services.
Brig. Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, Director of Traffic Department said: "It is very inspiring to see that the Schools without Accidents campaign is becoming a cornerstone of our nation's road awareness and safety programme. Road safety has been given high priority for some years in Qatar through extensive campaign and programmes and aggressive law enforcement which over the last three years has helped reduce fatalities to their lowest mark in two decades. We hope that the Schools without Accidents initiative can help support out country's strategies and plans to further promote and secure road safety."
George Nasra, Managing Director of IBQ said: "We are extremely happy to see another successful phase of the “Schools without Accidents| campaign rolling out. Such initiatives make up for a considerable part of our CSR drive which aims at spreading education by spearheading or sponsoring programmes and activities that designed to promote the welfare of the community. The “Schools without Accidents| campaign serves to support the Qatar National Development Strategy's objective to reduce traffic accidents and improve road safety and we believe that we, at IBQ, are ready to be the partners of choice to assist in this endeavour."
