The Samsung Amman International Marathon will kick off on October 28

HRH Prince Firas Bin Raad announced at a press conference today at the Council Hall of the Greater Amman Municipality that the ‘Samsung Amman International Marathon’ will kick off on October 28th, 2011.

HRH Prince Firas Bin Raad, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Amman International Marathon, stated “The Samsung Amman International Marathon has grown in size, stature and popularity since it was launched in 2009. Last year, over 10,000 people from different countries across the world took part in the Samsung Amman International Marathon, making it one of the most popular marathons to be held in the Middle East region.”

His Excellency Eng. Ammar Gharaybeh, Chairman of Amman Municipal Committee and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Amman International Marathon, “The Samsung Amman International Marathon continues to play a valuable role in promoting athleticism, particularly among youth, encouraging tourism to Jordan, and promoting athletic cooperation across the Middle East and the world. We look forward to seeing this year’s event continue to promote healthy lifestyles and a spirit of volunteerism among all members of the society.”

During the press conference, Mr. Sang Suk Roh, President of Samsung Levant confirmed that Samsung will be the Title Sponsor of the Amman International Marathon. He stated, “Samsung is honored to be the official sponsor of the region’s most popular marathon. Our sponsorship of this event falls in line with our aspiration to make a positive contribution to the Jordanian community by encouraging a healthier lifestyle for all and promoting Jordan as an international tourism destination for world-class events.”

The main sponsors of the Marathon include Samsung as the Title Sponsor, Zain and Arab Bank as the Gold Sponsors, The Specialty Hospital as the Bronze Sponsor, Sama Natural Mineral Water as the Official Water Sponsor and the Regency Palace as the Official Hotel. The Marathon is supported by the Jordan Tourism Board and the Greater Amman Municipality.

The Samsung Amman International Marathon is a public sporting event that is open to participants above the age of 6 from all over the world. This year’s Marathon will consist of two races— the 42.195 km marathon and the 10 km fun run. The Marathon is also one of the few major sporting events to take place in the region that provides people with special needs with an opportunity to demonstrate their sporting prowess.

The Amman International Marathon is a sporting and social event that aims to promote athleticism, encourage tourism to Jordan, and promote athletic cooperation across countries of the Middle East and the world. The Marathon is accredited by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and The Jordan Athletics Federation as an international event with the following categories: The 42 km run and the 10 km fun run. The Marathon will be held on October 28th, 2011 starting at the Roman Amphitheater Down Town for the 42km and from the Amman Sports City for the 10km. The Marathon is expected to attract over 12,000 participants from different countries across the globe.
