Israeli defense minister Ehud Barak on Monday held a "special meeting" with the Palestinian premier in the West Bank Salam Fayyad to discuss latest political and security developments. The discussion included the peace process and negotiations between the PA and Israel.
Ahead of the meeting, Israeli government sources said that the two men would discuss Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington this week along with developments in the West Bank during the freeze on settlement building.
This is the first time Fayyad would discuss the peace process with Barak, since such talks are of the concern of the PA leadership and the PLO's negotiations department. A statement for the PA leadership said that only daily life issues would be discussed during the meeting.
