Hamas on Monday slammed Fatah, accusing it of trying to get closer to Israel at the expense of the Palestinian people. This came following reports on growing security cooperation in the West Bank between the PA and Israel.
According to the reports, the head of Israel's General Security Service Yuval Diskin and the Israeli Army Commander in the West Bank Nitzan Alon and a number of Israeli officers have recently made several secret tours in the cities of Ramallah, Jenin and Qalqilya. A spokesman for Hamas Fawzi Barhoum was quoted as saying by Al-Quds Al-Arabi: "These visits confirm the role played by the PA security forces in the West Bank for the liquidation of Palestinian resistance fighters."
He added: "These visits underline the real destination of the Fatah movement. It is directed for securing security for the enemy, not for the Palestinian people,". According to him, security cooperation with the Israeli occupation is the most dangerous for the unity of the Palestinian national interest.
