Surrounded by Six Sides:
From North, South, East and West, Israel is being assaulted by peaceful Palestinian-supporting protestors who believe their time for triumph may have arrived earlier than expected on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the 1948 creation of Israel, known to Palestinians as the "Nakba" that marks the forced fleeing of Palestinians from their homeland.
An attempted rescue operation May 15, 2011 saw Palestinians from all neighbouring borders attempting to 'liberate Palestine' through the weapon of peaceful protest. The Nakba day incidents on Israel's borders showed that the Palestinians have finally entered the fray of the Arab revolutinary Spring. This was a 6 pronged challenge to Israel from multiple borders - Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, West Bank and Gaza.
It was relatively unusual to see flare-ups from some of these long-subdued borders, while the front that took the brunt of fatalities, Lebanon, is no stranger to skirmishes along its volatile, charged frontier with enemy Israel (though not in this Palestinian people-powered fashion). At least 12 were left dead from the Syria and Lebanon fronts. Lebanon is already a very troubled border, with Israelis only in the last 10 years having retreated following the1982 invasion and nearly 20-year occupation.
