Orange Jordan launches an Internet lab in Salt Secondary School for Boys
As part of Orange Jordan’s Broadband Fund, one of the flagship projects of Orange Jordan's CSR strategy for 2010-2012, the company recently launched a computer lab at the Salt Secondary School for Boys.
The lab was inaugurated by Khalid Lahham, Secretary General of the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, who attended the ceremony on behalf of the Minister, in addition to Sami Al Majali, Secretary General for Directorate Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Salt's Governor Fawaz Irshaidat. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Orange Jordan’s CEO Nayla Khawam, in addition to a number of media representatives and executives from the company.
This lab comes as the second in a series of labs that the company intends to launch throughout the year in several schools around the Kingdom. The company aims to develop the computer education environment in the Kingdom’s schools by providing various maintenance operations, as well as the needed furniture and technical equipment, in addition to upgrading Internet speeds and quality in 500 schools nationwide.
Khawam expressed her delight at the many achievements of the Orange Broadband Fund, saying: “We want 2011 to be the ‘The Broadband year,’ in line with the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, which call for spreading the Internet culture in the Kingdom. “We are proud of the launch of this lab, which will benefit more than 600 students and teachers by enhancing the learning environment in the school, thus helping our future generations embrace the Internet as an essential learning tool.”
“Last week, we celebrated the launch of the first computer lab at the Zarqa Secondary School for Boys, as well as the graduation of 300 beneficiaries of the fund’s basic computer skills workshops from the Northern Jordan Valley in the Irbid Governorate. Both these accomplishments indicate that the objectives outlined in the Orange Internet Fund are coming to fruition in a timely fashion and that we are rapidly heading toward the achievement of our prime objective, which is to make broadband connectivity readily available to as many citizens as possible” Khawam added.
Orange Jordan's CSR strategy was launched in mid 2010 to deliver two key projects to the community: the Orange Internet Fund and the Orange Villages project. The first seeks to bolster Internet penetration in the Kingdom’s governorates through a variety of special campaigns, in addition to making the Internet an integral tool in the educational process of various public schools around the Kingdom through infrastructure rehabilitation and capacity building. The latter is a unique project that seeks to deliver much-needed community development initiatives to rural poverty pockets around the Kingdom.
