Orange Jordan launches a computer lab at the Zarqa Secondary School for Boys

As part of the Orange Internet Fund, one of the flagship projects of Orange Jordan's CSR strategy for 2010-2012, the company recently launched a computer lab at the Zarqa Secondary School for Boys; the lab was inaugurated by Zarqa's Governor Sameh Al Majali and Orange Jordan's Chief Commercial Officer Wassila Zitoune. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Engineer Nawwaf Al Doghmi, Manager of MoE's Zarqa Cluster.
This lab comes as the first in a series of labs that the company intends to launch throughout the year in several schools around the kingdom. The company aims to develop the computer education environment in the schools by providing various maintenance operations and the needed furniture and technical equipment, in addition to upgrading internet speeds and quality in 500 schools.
The lab, which will benefit more than 800 students and teachers, has been furnished with all the necessary equipment and machinery, including 20 late model PCs. Orange Jordan also handled the various maintenance operations within the lab, including the paint job, the installation of air conditioning systems, as well as the internal external electric wiring.
"Day after day, we are witnessing the Orange broadband Fund project achievements, which aims to spread the Internet culture throughout the Kingdom, as per the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II," commented Zitoune. "Our primary objective is to make the Internet readily available to as many citizens as possible."
Zitoune explained that the company aims to play a central role in the improvement of the academic environment within the Kingdom's public schools, in a manner that reflects positively on the students' level of awareness. She further underscored the importance of the Internet as a crucial element in education and productivity, emphasizing that its proliferation is essential in Jordan's evolution towards a knowledge-based economy.
The students and teaching staff of Zarqa Secondary School for Boys expressed their utmost gratitude to Orange Jordan for their initiative, highlighting their enthusiasm to begin using their new computer lab.
Orange Jordan's inventive CSR strategy was launched in mid 2010 which includes two projects, the Orange Internet Fund, which consist of three pillars to help and support residents of the Kingdom’s governorates to subscribe to the internet irrespective of their internet service providers, rehabilitate schools’ internet infrastructure in order to bring the internet into their learning process, the strategy also brought forth the Orange Villages Project, which seeks to deliver much-needed community development initiatives to rural poverty pockets around the Kingdom.
