ALBAWABA - The assistant of the Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief was assassinated after a birthday gift turned out to be a bomb.
Valerii Zaluzhnyi, the commander-in-chief of Ukraine's Armed Forces, said that an "unknown explosive device" killed Hennadii Chastiakov, Anadolu Agency reported.
Zaluzhnyi posted that his assistant and Chastiakov tragically died while celebrating his birthday.
The Ukrainian commander-in-chief posted: "Indescribable pain and a heavy loss for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and for me personally. Today, my assistant and close friend Major Hennadii Chastiakov died under tragic circumstances on his birthday among his relatives."
According to media reports, an explosion was hidden inside one of the birthday gifts of the commander's assistant and when he tried to open it exploded.
Data showed that police came to the scene after a report of an explosion inside the apartment of Chastiakov, in which his son was seriously injured as well.
Valerii Zaluzhnyi added: "Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion (by Russia), Hennadii has been a reliable friend for me who fully devoted his life to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the fight against Russian aggression."
