ALBAWABA - A Syrian coffee seller recently made headlines after reports indicated that he became one of ousted president Bashar Assad's top-paid militia members when he fought rebellion groups against the notorious Assad regime, according to Al Arabiya.
Ali Al-Shalli used to sell coffee on his bicycle in Syria but was later appointed as a soldier for Bashar Assad and formed a popular committee to fight Syrian rebellious groups amid the revolution in 2011. He was responsible for allegedly looting, killing, kidnapping, and stealing the property of local Syrians, where he made his fortune.

According to several Syrian human rights organizations and a pro-Assad website in 2016, Ali Al-Shalli collected more than a billion Syrian lira (approximately $76,000) from local Syrians back in 2014. He also allegedly supplied the Assad regime with many soldiers since 2011.
Not only Ali Al-Shalli but many of his family members were also part of the Assad regime which resulted in the blood-shed of many Syrians across the country.
According to several sources including Arab News, nearly 300 Assad regime soldiers were arrested at the hands of Syria’s new authorities, Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham, led by Abu Mohammed Al-Golani, right after ousted Syrian president Bashar Assad fled from Damascus to Moscow, Russia with his family including his wife Asma.
On the contrary, Asma Assad allegedly asked for a divorce from her husband and has expressed her discontent with living in Moscow, Russia. Moreover, sources also claim that Asma has been recently rediagnosed with Leukemia, a type of cancer that targets blood cells and bone marrow.
