ALBAWABA - Ibrahim Aqil, a prominent military figure in Hezbollah, was the target of an Israeli bombing today in the southern Beirut suburbs, according to Al Jazeera.

Aqil, also known as Tahseen, is considered the second-in-command of Hezbollah after Fouad Shukr was killed in a similar attack on July 30.

Aqil is a member of the Jihad Council, the highest military body within Hezbollah, and he is in charge of the organization's elite divisions, the Radwan Force.

The United States State Department set established a $7 million prize in April 2023 for information that would lead to his apprehension. He was labeled a "Global Terrorist" by the United States in September 2019 and a "Terrorist" in July 2015 by the Treasury Department.

In the 1980s, Aqil played a prominent role in the Islamic Jihad Organization, participating in strikes on the U.S. embassy and Marine barracks in Beirut.

Israeli military sources later revealed that the operation's goal was to hit a Hezbollah military gathering. Still unknown, however, is Aqil's situation after the strike.

According to Al Jazeera reports, three missiles were fired by an Israeli aircraft into a residential building in the heavily populated Qaim neighborhood, which has a lot of civilian infrastructure.

The Lebanese news agency reportedly said that an F-35 aircraft targeted civilian areas when it attacked a residence in the Jamous district.
