A horrific murder where a black North Caronlian man shot a 5-year-old boy in the head killing him immediately has come under scrutiny lately for not receiving enough media coverage in US outlets; especially that it comes after the killing of black George Floyd had triggered nationwide protests for months.
Say his name. 5 year old Cannon Hinnant was executed in cold blood while riding his bike. The accused killer is Darius Sessoms. He allegedly walked up to the boy and shot him dead in front of his sisters. Reverse the races and this is the only thing anyone talks about for a month pic.twitter.com/5V72YhAOlI

According to several media sources, Cannon Hinnant was riding his bike around the house in Wilson, North Carolina before he reportedly "stepped over the neighbors' backyard," which might have angered 25-year-old Darius Sessoms, who had used a gun to shoot the young boy dead in the late afternoon.
The offender, who got arrested 24 hours after the murder, had reportedly lived in the near-by house for years and has known Hinnant's family for a long time.
A five-year-old child was murdered in cold blood - shot at close range while riding his bike, by a man who crossed a street to put the gun up to his head. My question: why not call it what it was? Execution of an innocent child.

Who was 5-year-old Cannon https://t.co/0LX1GCz6P9
Where is the national media on this? Why isn’t important to them? Because a deranged black man executed a 5 year old child in front of his sisters for riding his bicycle on his yard? If the races were reversed, they’d be all over it 24/7.

The incident witnessed by Cannon's older sisters has sent shock waves across social media; especially as it was reported by only a limited number of publications and domestic newspapers.
Many social media users shared photos of both the victim and the killer questioning media bias in reporting this story in comparison to the heavy coverage that followed the murder of George Floyd by a white policeman in Minnesota last May, which prompted Black Lives Matter movement across the United States in the following weeks.
You know what? The fact that the guy who killed this little boy is still alive may be evidence we need more police brutality. They’re clearly too soft. Darius Sessoms shouldn’t even be in the prison system. BLM should be raising funds for his funeral. pic.twitter.com/Ag814XURTf

Twitter users calling for media outlets to pay more attention to such tragic events wondered if the crime would have caused similar reactions if races of the people involved in it were reversed, suggesting that the media only reports violations against minorities or involving police violence, while it ignores others where the victims are members of the white community.
This happened near my own community and I'm absolutely horrified, so saddened, and deeply disturbed. All I can think about is this boys poor parents and the heartbreak they must be feeling right now. Just an absolutely senseless act of evil.
