ALBAWABA - Several former US officials who wished to not be named claimed recently that China's "wolf warrior" diplomat and former foreign minister Qin Gang was reportedly demoted to a lower-ranking position, according to the Washington Post.

Qin Gang went missing in the summer of 2023 triggering rumors that the political figure died or was imprisoned across social media and news outlets. His disappearance came amid a tense period between China and the United States and multiple visits by high-key American officials to Beijing.

In February, Gang made an appearance to the public to announce his resignation, as reported by Turkye's Anadolu News Agency.

The former US officials added that he's in fact "still alive" but working in a position far lower than his previous status in the World Affairs Press but is still working at the Foreign Ministry, making it bizarre due to the individual in question being close to China's President Xi Jinping.

One former official added that his disappearance allegedly meant that "he’s off the hook" while the other said that despite him not going to jail, his career was over as a form of "punishment," for unknown reasons.
