Were Americans involved in DR Congo failed coup?

ALBAWABA - On Sunday, DR Congo announced that it has thwarted a planned coup, according to General Sylvain Ekenge, the Congolese army spokesperson. However, he didn't mention the party behind it.

The Congolese army added in a statement confirming that there was a coup attempt involving "foreigners and Congolese" people.

"An attempted coup d'etat has been stopped by the defense and security forces," General Ekenge stated in a televised message.

He maintained that the "foreigners and Congolese ... including their leader, would all no longer cause any harm" to the country.

Was the US involved in the DR Congo failed coup?

Congo’s army spokesman said on Tuesday that three American citizens were involved in the attempted coup in Kinshasa on May 19.

Brig. Gen. Sylvain Ekenge revealed the names of three Americans involved in the Sunday coup, he told the Associated Press that the third person's name is Taylor Thomson, however, his fate whether arrested or killed was not known.

According to AP, family members in Utah have held a ceremony to mourn Christian Malanga, who was killed in the coup in DR Congo.

Furthermore, two other Americans were confirmed to had been involved in the coup attempt last Sunday; Benjamin Reuben Zalman-Polun, a convicted marijuana trafficker, as well as Malanga's son, whose name is Marcel, 21-year-old.

Attacks on Sunday erupted in DR Congo, one targeted the palace and another was at the residence of a close ally of President Felix Tshisekedi.
