Was Abu Obaida killed in Gaza? Rumor trends online

ALBAWABA - In the past few hours, many people on social media claimed that Abu Obaida the infamous spokesman for Hamas's military wing, Al-Qassam Brigades, was killed in an Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip. 

Social media users claimed allegedly citing "NBC" that Abu Obaida, whose identity isn't revealed to the public, was killed in a precise Israeli attack in Gaza.

The rumors about Abu Obaida come days after Israel and Hamas announced the killing of leader Yahya Sinwar in Tal as Sultan, north of Rafah city. Before Sinwar, Hamas' former leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli attack in Tehran, Iran.

This is not the first time, rumors about Abu Obaida have emerged online, earlier in August 2024, Unconfirmed reports emerged on X (formerly Twitter) claiming that Abu Obaida was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza.

Was Abu Obaida killed in Gaza?

Despite rumors on social media that have been on top trending topics, neither the Israeli army nor the Hamas group posted or announced any information regarding the assassination of Abu Obaida, Hamas' military wing spokesperson.

Furthermore, some X users said that the news about Abu Obaida is fake and disinformation to weaken the resistance group.
