ALBAWABA — A guy in Luxor has been detained by Egyptian police after a distressing video of him killing a cat in real time went viral on Facebook, sparking anger throughout the country.
Shortly after the video went viral on social media, security officials arrested the 28-year-old guy from Esna city in southern Egypt. According to authorities, he was questioned right away, and legal action will be taken shortly.
The guy was seen approaching the cat and then murdering it with a sharp object in the disturbing video, which was captured in the last few days. Social media users expressed their outrage at the horrifying picture, with many demanding immediate justice.
Online users quickly asked that he be held accountable for the brutality he had shown to animals. The video brought attention to Egypt's persistent animal mistreatment problems, where campaigners have called on authorities and animal protection organizations to intervene.
This instance follows a string of similar ones in which recordings and pictures of animal abuse have incited public indignation and redoubled calls for stricter enforcement of animal protection legislation.
