ALBAWABA - A horrifying video recently flooded social media after capturing the moment a Xiaomi SU7 Ultra electric car caught fire when it crashed, trapping the passenger on board inside, and burning him alive in Chengdu, China.

Four individuals were seen surrounding the car, attempting to rescue the man inside by kicking its doors, breaking its windows, and extinguishing the fire, but all efforts were in vain.

According to a report by Chengdu police, a man identified as Deng Moumou was driving the Xiaomi car under the influence of alcohol when he crashed into another vehicle, leading to the tragic incident.

The incident sparked widespread speculations on social media regarding the safety of Xiaomi's electric vehicles, raising questions about the Chinese company's battery safety and door handle design.

According to several reports, the accident has caused Xiaomi's stock price to drop over 8 percent in Hong Kong, marking the steepest decline since April 2025 due to safety concerns.

Back in March, three people died in Tongling, Anhui, after accidentally crashing a Xiaomi SU7 vehicle into a highway guardrail, which led to it catching fire. This prompted the Chinese tech giant to release a statement expressing its deep regret for the incident, as reported by CnEVPost.

Regarding the most recent incident, many social media users expressed concern over the design of electric vehicle door handles, describing them as a major safety risk.

A social media user wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), "Here's an idea for electric car manufacturers, ditch the total bulls**t gimmick door locks and install regular mechanical door locks. We get it, it's an electric car, not everything has to be electrical to prove it."

Another wrote, "Xiaomi SU7 manual door unlock is not as accessible as Teslas, but is still there though probably not helpful from muscle memory in a fire like this."

Many others urged all drivers to always carry a glass breaker inside their cars in case they are in a similar situation.
