Video: Peru football player killed by lightning strike

ALBAWABA - A terrifying video of several football players in Peru being hit by several lightning strikes took the internet by storm on a Sunday afternoon. 

A player named Jose Hugo de la Cruz Meza was taking part in a friendly football match between Peru's Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca but minutes later, the referee called it off due to a coming storm. 

After the match was halted, 39-year-old De la Cruz tragically succumbed to his death due to the lightning strikes in question which also left several other players injured, according to the Daily Mail.

The match was abruptly halted with Bellavista taking the lead in two goals.

Moreover, 40-year-old goalkeeper Juan Chocca Llacta is said to have suffered burns from the lightning strike along with other players on the pitch. 

The video in question showcased terrifying lightning strikes hitting different players on the head as they fell to the ground due to the shock. The Daily Mail added that two teenagers were also taken to the hospital to receive further treatment. By the time of writing this article, they are believed to be in a "stable condition". 

Civil Defense manager in the region Cesar Ramos claimed that De la Cruz died due to wearing a metal bracelet. He further added that "It was like a magnet".
