ALBAWABA - An Iraqi man recently sparked outrage among animal rights activists after a video captured him painting a dog blue with a roller in the city of Barsa.

Many social media users condemned the act in question, calling for authorities to hold the man accountable for his actions. The scene was described by many as shocking and a form of animal cruelty, as the dog looked visibly confused.

Paint that is usually used for walls can be toxic to animals, such as dogs and cats, as it can cause a variety of health issues. It contains harmful chemicals that could lead to skin irritation, damage to the respiratory system, and severe allergies.

A social media user wrote on Facebook, "Why are you doing this? Shame on you — have some mercy for the animal."

Another added, "Why did you hurt him? Weren’t you afraid of God? This poor creature was sitting under your feet, and that’s what you did to him. How do you expect God to have mercy on us, and the other one is even filming you? May God take his revenge on you."

For their part, the Basra police identified the individual and arrested him. Although the Iraqi man posted an apology video on TikTok, police showed no leniency to emphasize the severity of his actions, further explaining that what he did does not reflect the Iraqi society's morality towards animals.

The police also called on citizens not to exploit their animals for social media fame, especially with content that could harm said animals.
