ALBAWABA - As the fire continues to rage across some parts of Southern California, a video has sparked social media buzz reportedly showing a fire tornado storming Los Angeles.
Since Jan. 7, at least 28 people have been killed in the wildfires that raged burning 57,403 acres and destroying 16,252 structures.
The clip, allegedly said to be taken in California, shows what looks like lava spiralling into the air at night along with the caption: "The meeting of a hurricane and fire in the United States."
What's the truth behind the fire tornado in Los Angeles, California?
A video of a fire tornado in California is not true, the clip dates back to 2021 and it was taken in Iceland, Al Arabiya reported.
After long research, it turned out that there is longer footage from the scene with an even clearer version and it was shared 4 years ago, which makes it unrelated to the current fires in Los Angeles.
The video was believed to be captured by photographer Sigfuss Steindörsson, who often posts photos and videos of nature in Iceland on his social media accounts. It was shared on his page on May 6, 2021.
Steindorsson also confirmed to AFP that he took the video himself in Iceland, stressing that it has no connection to the Los Angeles fires.
