ALBAWABA - Controversial American TV host Tucker Carlson broke his silence on Tuesday and accused the United States of spying on him during his interview with Edward Snowden.

Edward Snowden is an American-Russian citizen who was a computer intelligence consultant and whistleblower who leaked highly classified information from the National Security Agency (NSA) in 2013 when he was an employee and subcontractor.

Conservative journalist Carlson said that US spies had tracked him during his visit to Russia earlier this month. He further claimed that spies had told a "friendly" outlet that he made an interview with Snowden.

In a talk with podcaster Lex Fridman, Carlson said that he wanted to keep his interview with the NSA whistleblower a secret, but the US leaked the interview.

Earlier this month, the American TV host conducted an interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin during an eight-day visit to Moscow, during which he also interviewed Edward Snowden.

He said: "I was being intensely surveilled by the US government." He maintained to Fridman: "Semafor runs this piece – reporting information they got from the US intel agencies, leaking against me, using my money, in my name, in a supposedly free country – they run this piece saying I met with Snowden, like it was a crime or something."

Carlson's lawyer warned the TV host that he could get arrested upon his return to the US depending on the content of his interview with the Russian president.
