ALBAWABA - Syria's transitioning president Ahmed al-Sharaa (also known as Abu Mohammad al-Julani) is the talk of social media after a video clip allegedly showed him during his imprisonment in 2008 at an Iraqi prison.

The video in question sparked speculations and debate among social media users about its authenticity as some deemed it "too blurry" and "inauthentic." The individual who was likened to Al-Sharaa was wearing orange pants, a red jacket, and a green cap.

According to an investigation launched by Taakad, the reported video of Ahmed al-Sharaa was deemed fake since it was clipped out of a documentary released back in 2023 outlining the lives of imprisoned ISIS members in northern Syria.

A social media user on Musk's X (formerly known as Twitter) wrote, "The video is of someone else. Make sure the news you share is correct before you publish it. Who gave you the doctorate?" In response to a post shared on the platform claiming the video in question is factual.

Al-Sharaa was recently part of a new rumor circulating that he launched a new social media account on Musk's X which was also slammed quickly after users couldn't locate his account.

His recent visit to Mecca, Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah (an Islamic pilgrimage) generated a lot of traffic on social media as users congratulated Al-Sharaa on his journey.
