ALBAWABA - At the Palais de Justice in Paris, the long-awaited trial of 10 defendants accused of robbing reality TV star Kim Kardashian at Paris Fashion Week in 2016 has officially began.

The accusers are accused of robbing Kardashian during the event.  The heist, which included jewels valued at €9 million ($10 million), continues to be the greatest robbery that has targeted one person in France during the previous twenty years since it occurred.

There is a hearing planned on May 13 for Kim Kardashian, who is now 44 years old.  At about three in the morning, she was present in her hotel room, getting ready for bed, when two guys in masks broke in and demanded her engagement ring, which was a diamond gift from the rapper Kanye West measuring four million dollars.  According to the prosecution, the fact that Kardashian had repeatedly shown the ring and her whereabouts on social media made her a target throughout the investigation.

In order to approach the hotel, the suspects, who were characterized as a "old-school gang" and had an average age of sixty at the time of the incident, are said to have disguised themselves as police officers and utilized bicycles.  After being identified by DNA evidence, Omar Ait Khedache acknowledged to being the person who restrained Kardashian, but he denied being the one who orchestrated the crime.  He referred to the criminal conduct as "easy" rather than portraying it as a massive armed operation.

The incident lasted for just 10 minutes, yet it left Kardashian in a state of profound distress.  Investigators think that the majority of the stolen gold jewelry was melted down and that a significant portion of the treasure was sold in Belgium. The only necklace that was found was a single necklace.  After many months had passed since the incident, the authorities were also able to confiscate hundreds of thousands of euros from the accused.

Didier Dubreucq and Omar Ait Khedache are two of the 10 accused, and both of them have a history of convictions for stolen goods and narcotics trafficking.  It is the responsibility of the judges to ascertain the roles that each person played and to investigate the means by which they received such accurate knowledge of Kardashian's activities.  Although the brother of Kardashian's chauffeur has denied any culpability, investigators have in the past suggested that he may have been involved in the incident.

A number of the accused are either old or in bad condition, which presents significant difficulties for the trial.  Earlier this year, one of the suspects passed away, and another suspect, who was 80 years old, was declared incompetent for trial.  It has been stated that Omar Ait Khedache, who is now 68 years old, has lost his hearing and communicates only via writing.

After the tragic episode, Kardashian remained away from Paris for a considerable amount of time and substantially limited the amount of real-time information she shared on social media.
