ALBAWABA - Photos of the "updated version" of the famous Statue of Liberty following New York City's mayoral elections 2025 have taken the internet by storm after the victory of controversial figure Zohran Mamdani.
Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old Democrat, won New York City's mayoral primary, but he caused fury among MAGA supporters, who were unhappy with his victory, so they protested in various ways.
Mamdani's victory in the 2025 mayoral elections made him the first Indian-American and Muslim mayor in the history of New York City.

However, since winning, he has been the target of Islamophobic backlash over his origin, including from the US representative for Georgia's 14th congressional district, Marjorie Taylor Greene, who also posted a controversial photo to protest his win.
Marjorie Taylor Greene posted a picture of the Statue of Liberty wearing a burqa, a full-cover usually worn by Muslim women.
Another X user posted a picture of the Statue of Liberty wearing a full blue-color body and face cover and wrote: "Sources say Zohran Mamdani to cover Statue of Liberty in a modest dress."
