ALBAWABA - Starbucks, which is facing a worldwide boycott over its stance on the war in Gaza, has taken the internet by storm after releasing a "watermelon mug" for sale.
Many pro-Palestinian activists have shared photos of the mug and praised the American multinational chain of coffeehouses and roastery, with claims that it has officially announced its support for Palestine.
Activists immediately thought that the company had now shown support for Palestine amid the war in Gaza which killed over 24,000 people after over 100 days of Israeli attacks.
It is well-known that watermelon has been a symbol of Palestinian resistance for a long time.

Starbucks clarifies the truth about "Watermelon mug":
However, a spokesperson to Starbucks clarified that the Watermelon mug was part of the UK summer collection, which launched in May 2023, months before the Israeli war in Gaza.
In detail, Starbucks along with many coffee lovers shared their opinions about the Watermelon mug on social media around that time.
Nonetheless, the Amazon website also placed the mug for sale last year, specifically in June 2023, which proves that this has no connection with the Israeli war in Gaza, which started on Oct. 7.
