Sports journalist Luigi Esposito killed, burnt in a shocking crime

ALBAWABA - Sports journalist Luigi “Luca” Esposito, 53, was found dead on Sunday in Eboli, southern Italy. A probe was opened by authorities into his death.

It started when the charred remains of an unknown person were found at a farm in Eboli city, and after examination, authorities confirmed they belonged to the journalist, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists, the European Federation of Journalists and several local outlets.

His body was not only burnt, but he was also severely beaten up in his face, ribs and pelvis, Corriere Della Sera said.

Additionally, bullet casings were also found in the vicinity.

Esposito had his car keys in his pocket when he was found, and his vehicle was found locked. Investigators believe he had left his car voluntarily to see someone at the location, La Repubblica revealed.

On the other hand, security cameras obtained by Eboli Municipal Police showed the Italian journalist arriving near the scene of the fire with another person and staying there for a while, according to La Città di Salerno.
