ALBAWABA - An Egyptian man and asylum seeker in the United Kingdom was sentenced to 36 years in jail over a selfie in a boat.

A British court announced the sentencing of Egyptian man Reda Hammoud Abed Rabbo to three years in jail over human smuggling accusations.

The Egyptian asylum seeker posted a selfie where he was seen driving a boat carrying immigrants in an attempt to smuggle them inside Britain illegally.

According to the Daily Mail, Abed Rabbo was said to have been smuggling humans into the UK for free and didn't take money for it.

The British Newspaper further reported that the Egyptian man, 25, was caught by the Border Force in the UK inside a boat with 50 people who were attempting to enter Britain through the English Channel in July last year.

Salisbury Crown Court announced on Friday sentencing the man to 3 years and two months over human smuggling accusations.

His phone was taken when he was caught by Boarder Force and a photo of the man posing with his hand on the tiller as he steered the boat towards the UK was seen inside the gallery.

Messages were also found on Abed Rabbo's phone about attempting to reach the UK in an illegal way.
