ALBAWABA - A massive fire erupted during a wedding in Iraq's Nineveh city yesterday night killing at least 100 people and injuring hundreds more.
Iraqis were shocked by the incident especially after videos from inside the wedding hall were released showing the first moment when the massive, scary fire began at Al-Haytham Hall during a wedding ceremony.
A clip was shared online showing a bride and a groom dancing when the fireworks started then suddenly the ceiling caught fire causing massive fire before it started to fall on the audience.
At least 300 individuals who attended the wedding were heard screaming and running for their lives after the whole wedding hall caught fire.
Iraqi authorities rapidly responded to the wedding fire and sent civil defense vehicles and ambulances to the scene to rescue the injured and retrieve the deceased.
On Wednesday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani declared a 3-day general mourning in Iraq for the lives of the victims of the Hamdaniya fire in Nineveh city.
Furthermore, Iraqi civil defense reported in their statement that the presence of prefabricated panels at the event hall was "highly flammable and contravened safety standards".
Another video before the disaster fire was also unveiled online showing the happy couple dancing in the middle of the wedding hall before the tragedy.
