ALBAWABA - Boston, July 18, 2025 — Low-cost airline Ryanair stirred the internet with a savage one-liner after a Coldplay concert “kiss cam” moment went viral for all the wrong reasons.
In a tweet posted just hours after the now-infamous incident, the airline wrote:
“Ryanair 🤝 Coldplay — splitting up couples.”
The tweet referenced a now-viral moment during Coldplay’s July 17th concert at Gillette Stadium, where frontman Chris Martin jokingly outed a couple on the big screen, sparking allegations of an affair.
What started out as a funny moment at a Coldplay concert quickly turned into a huge internet drama when lead singer Chris Martin joked about a couple caught on the venue's Kiss Cam, which led to claims of cheating.
At the band's sold-out "Music of the Spheres" show at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, Martin was making up a song called "The Jumbotron Song" when the cameras pan to a man and woman who are seen hugging. "Oh, look at these two," Martin joked, setting up the moment. Either they're seeing someone else or they're just shy!"
People in the crowd laughed out loud, but the couple's odd response—ducking away from the camera—made people look twice. The two people were quickly identified as Andy Byron, CEO of the tech company Astronomer, and Kristin Cabot, Chief People Officer of the business. People thought that they might be dating beyond work because of how close they seemed to each other and how quickly they tried to avoid attention.
People online connected the man to Megan Kerrigan Byron, a woman thought to be his wife. The woman apparently deleted her social media accounts soon after the video went public, which made things worse.
A video clip that has been shared a lot of times shows Martin looking awkward as he seems to understand what his joke might mean. He spoke to the crowd nervously, "I hope we didn't do anything bad."
Millions of people have watched the video on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), with reactions that range from shock and laughter to pity. Some fans joked that Coldplay made “two new singles”—a nod to both the band and the possible broken relationships. A joke that went popular asked, "What's worse: finding out your partner is cheating or that they like Coldplay?"
A claimed quote from Byron started going around online, but Astronomer quickly said it wasn't real. Neither Byron nor Cabot have said anything about what happened in public, and their agents have turned down pleas from the media.
Coldplay's world tour, which began in 2022 and will end at London's Wembley Stadium in September 2025, is going on at the same time as the controversy. The band was in the news earlier this summer for bringing back old hits like "Speed of Sound," but this awkward show moment has really caught people's attention.
Fans may want to think twice before getting close to the camera while the tour is going on, especially since Chris Martin will be watching.
