ALBAWABA - Since US President Donald Trump's announcement of the administration's bid to accept the Qatar royal family's $400 million plane gift, American activists denounced the decision, calling on the government to return the Statue of Liberty to France.

Americans expressed ethical concerns regarding Trump's announcement to accept a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar, which is expected to be used as a new Air Force One.

The New York Times reported that the US president angrily replied to a question regarding the Qatari gift, saying "only someone 'stupid' would turn down such an offer."

He also stressed that it will be a gift for the Department of Defense — and not him personally — and confirmed that it will remain with the next US government and that he is not planning to get it after leaving the office.

American Senator Chuck Schumer slammed the bid to accept the Qatari plane and wrote on X: "Nothing says 'America First' like Air Force One, brought to you by Qatar. It’s not just bribery, it’s premium foreign influence with extra legroom."

Americans online slammed the move as well and called on Donald Trump to return New York City's famous Statue of Liberty.

A person said, "I don’t agree with accepting this 'gift', but using your logic, we better send the Statue of Liberty back."
