ALBAWABA - The oldest president in the history of the Church, Russell M. Nelson, died at the age of 101, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced in a social media post on Sunday.

In a post on X, the church wrote, "With sorrow we announce that Russell M. Nelson, beloved President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has died. He was 101 — the oldest president in the history of the Church."

Russell M. Nelson, also referred to as President Nelson, was called as an Apostle on April 7, 1984 and then became the leader of the Church on January 14, 2018.

Before getting involved in the church, President Nelson was a heart surgeon. He performed the first open-heart surgery in Utah in 1955.
